Staff Attend New York Land Conservation Conference

Each spring, land conservationists from across New York gather to attend the NY Land Conservation Conference.

Genesee Valley Conservancy staff attended to network with collegues, learn about methods to improve our work, and share our experiences with others so we all do a better job of protecting New York’s environment.

This year, Executive Director Ben Gajewski led a session alongside the NYS Farmland Protection program manager to share our expertise with protecting farmland in the Genesee Valley.

The workshops staff attended included presentations on how organizations are using mapping technology to prioritize cooridors for wildlife to travel between habitats, fundraising methods to help donors protect lands via bequest, hearing from indigineous people to learn about their history on the land which has been largely erased from society, and water-quality programs that can protect our lakes and streams to keep our water healthy and clean for drinking and as natural habitat.

The conference was a quick two days, but staff gained key lessons to help advance our work.
