New York Voters Pass Environmental Bond Act

Last fall, voters overwhelmingly passed the largest environmental bond act in the State’s history. 68% of voters voted in favor of Proposition 1: The Clean Water, Clean Air, and Green Jobs Bond Act.

Genesee Valley Conservancy was one of over 300 environmental organizations and business groups that raised awareness and supported this act.

The 4.2 billion dollar act will support major infrastructure projects like water treatment plant upgrades and fixing leaking sewers to ensure our waters are clean and healthy. The bond act will also support traditional projects undertaken by the Conservancy like farmland protection and open space conservation.

Our farmland protection program is helping keep land in the hands of local families and preventing the loss of Genesee Valley’s prime agricultural ground to other uses. The bond act will support this continued work and help us invest in our local farms.

The bond act will also support projects like our effort to connect two segments of the Genesee Valley Greenway State Park to ensure this park has connectivity and that the health and recreation benefits of this linear park remain intact.

New York is the 27th largest state, but has the 4th largest population. Taking care of our fresh air, clean water, and open space is something we all need.
