Maura Slocum, PhD
Stewardship Director
steward@geneseevalleyconservancy.org
Maura is a lover of the outdoors and a passionate pet parent. Her career has been guided by the "think global, act local" philosophy, focusing on the relationship between people and their environment. After growing up next to Taughannock Falls and Cayuga Lake, Maura was inspired to explore the world's natural beauty, serving with the United States Peace Corps in Senegal, West Africa and studying the biogeochemistry of anthropogenic soils while earning her doctorate at the University of Pennsylvania.
In 2024, Maura returned to upstate NY, joining the Conservancy as Stewardship Director. In her role, Maura works with landowners to maintain productive farmland, open space, and habitat in the Genesee Valley region, in addition to engaging the community in protecting natural spaces within the Conservancy's preserves.
