Informational Kiosk Added to Island Preserve

Hello, my name is Jacob Shearer and I am a member of Boy Scout Troop 4070 located in Geneseo, NY.

For my Eagle Scout project, I decided to build a kiosk and split rail fences for Genesee Valley Conservancy’s Island Preserve in Geneseo to help educate those in the community about the preserve and to help guide visitors to one of the entrances that is lesser known by the community.

The project took around five months to complete and through its completion I learned many valuable lessons on how to lead a project, such as how to schedule with others and the necessary steps that need to be taken before construction can begin.

I added split rail fences at the Lima Road walk-in entrance to the property, which was recently aquired by the Conservancy. I also added the kiosk visible from Avon-Geneseo Road which will soon house a preserve trail map, information on wildlife, and other informational signage to help visitors better understand and enjoy this property. This property is used frequently by Geneseo Central School, so added signage will help enhance student visits.
